We had a great time hosting the PotLuck last night and were thrilled not only with the turnout but with how much fun everybody seemed to have. Several parents thought we should get together without the kids next time. Here are the topics we covered, if I forgot one just let me know and I’ll update the list.
1. We are in the process of getting new lacrosse T-shirts for the team and they should be ready in about 10 days. They will be black and have a large version of the BHS lacrosse logo on the back with “BHS Lacrosse on the left chest. They will sell for $10.
2. You can order unique lacrosse shirts, hoodies, etcetera for you or your son from with this link from prepsportswear.com http://www.prepsportswear.com this is where I purchased Kendall’s black polo shirt.
3. The site for the Lacrosse Membership is www.uslacrosse.org when it asks for the school or group, just skip that question. Email me your son’s member number when you get it so I don’t lose it.
4. We will be having parents drive to the away games. If you just want to send your son it is a $10 fee, payable to the driver they go with, to offset the cost of gas. Uniforms will be in around February 1st, give or take. We do not know if we will have them for the jamboree. In order not to lose any uniforms, they will be given out at practice to wear at school the next day and collected at the next practice for team spirit or at the game and collected immediately after the game. They will get washed and stored for the next game so we don’t lose anything.
5. We are willing to sell the helmets for $150 and the complete uniform (shorts, two jerseys and the pinnie) for $140. That covers our costs, shipping and the up charge for a small order to replace the equipment. If your son is planning to play in summer leagues (there is one that Oak Hall sponsors and one that is held inside skate station) they will need a helmet. Keeping the uniform is just cool and when we replace it, at least for the next four years, we will only order jersey numbers over 30 so the players with the low numbers know they are one of the Founding Fathers of BHS LAX. Without them, this would never have happened.
6. For ordering equipment, LAX.com as a message board at www.lax.com/boards that has player’s reviews of the different equipment. Other main sites to order equipment from are www.QCLAX.com , www.lacrossemonkey.com and www.laxuniverse.com . Lacrosse Universe is located in Altamont Springs, just north of Orlando and has a full store with most the different styles of equipment available to try on. If you are down that way it’s a pretty neat store to visit. Blaine likes warrior products and for armguards he likes the ones that have the small elbow cup (not the large free floating one) that has the upper and lower pads that kind of cover it up.
7. Your son needs the following equipment to play: shoulder pads, arms pads, compression shorts, athletic cup, jock strap, mouth guard. There is a new product called the NuttyBuddy www.nuttybuddy.com/ that if you watch the demo on the website or www.youtube.com looks like a good product. I’m ordering one for Kendall just to try it out. Cups are notoriously uncomfortable and this is evidently the next generation of the dumb thing.
8. Make your son uncomfortable by hugging them and telling them you are proud of him. They have done a great job and they will definitely win more than their fair share of games this year. If you are a player reading this please know that I am really proud of you and the effort you have put in to make this all happen. Seeing the excitement in your eyes when you talk about the sport and your friends on the team makes all of this worth while. In just a few short weeks we now have a real TEAM that together can do anything. Keep up the good work and you should probably make your parents uncomfortable by hugging them and thanking them for supporting you.
